This easy tranquil walk starts at the village of Arlingham, Arlingham lies at the end of a peninsula formed by a great bend in the river Severn. From here we head off down quiet country roads then across farmland and up to the banks of the Severn, following the river downstream. We then walk across the levees and around the contour of the river as it steers out to the windy estuary facilitating excellent views of Garden cliff and the historic village of Newnham on Severn , once an old industrial shipping port that supplied cities with coal and wood from the Forest of dean. It’s then past the old Passage inn (now a renowned restaurant) a site of an ancient crossing that was washed away by a powerful flood 300 years ago. As we head for home we will experience the fascinating sight of old WW2 gun turrets still embedded in the river banks.
